Our team of professionals has extensive experience designing asset allocation strategies, performing due diligence on investment products, implementing portfolio strategies and reporting on portfolio performance. The members are Ph.D’s, MBA’s, CFA’s, AIFA’s, and are securities licensed. Each member of Champion Capital Research is committed to delivering quality independent research.


Investment Committee

Mary Kathryn Campion, Ph.D., CFA, AIFAMary Kathryn Campion is President and Lead Portfolio Manager for Champion Capital Research. Dr. Campion is in charge of the firm’s econometric analyses that generates ideas for asset allocation and tactical investment strategies. She has over twenty years of experience in the investment industry as a portfolio strategist and financial economist. She is widely considered an expert in creating asset allocation strategies. Her professional experience includes advising insurance companies, retirement plans and pension funds regarding strategic and tactical asset allocation, manager due diligence and selection, fixed income immunization strategies, and emerging equity market satellite investment strategies. Dr. Campion and analysts manage global fund investment model portfolios with specified risk and return characteristics as well as tactical emerging and global market strategies used by institutional clientele. The firm’s proprietary econometric models are used to develop forward-looking expectation for estimating equity and fixed income returns and volatilities. These estimates influence tactical and strategic asset allocation decisions made by Champion on behalf its clientele.

Campion is published in academic and professional journals including Bank Asset/Liability Management, The North America Journal of Economics and Finance and The World Economy: The America’s.  Mary Kathryn holds a B.A. from Rice University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Houston. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), an Accredited Investment Fiduciary Auditor (AIFA®) and maintains Series 7 and 63 NASD security licenses.
Jennifer Schneider, MBA, AIFJennifer Schneider, AIF is currently Director of Portfolio Consultation for Champion Capital Research. She has been responsible for the research and due diligence of traditional managers and funds for more than seven years. Ongoing due diligence, compliance audits and consistent quantitative returns-based and holdings-based analyses to determine investment strategy and legal compliance are her expertise. In addition to her expertise in allocating managers, Jennifer has served on investment, business development and product development committees at her prior firms in order to successfully achieve corporate goals. Her responsibilities for Champion include the analysis and due diligence of managers, consulting to financial advisory groups, and developing products and services that will be for the greater good of the investor.

Prior to her engagement with Champion, Jennifer worked as a financial planner for American Express Financial Advisors, where she learned the value of a financial plan and began her investment analysis research theory. She then joined Vista Analytics, LLC, as a research analyst overseeing the firm’s separate account wrap program. Jennifer served as the director of research for Vista Analytics succeeding firm US Fiduciary. She contributed to the development of the firm’s product lineup, including more than 50 model portfolios, which incorporated unified managed accounts and alternative investments. She oversaw the traditional product due diligence processes, authored quarterly industry reports, created product analyst reports and assisted in the firm’s launch of new products.

Jennifer holds an MBA from the University of Houston, and has a Bachelors degree from Texas A&M University. She is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®) and maintains her Series 7 and 63 NASD security licenses.
Roger E. Muns, CFA, CPA Roger E. Muns, CFA, CPA ,has been a member of Champion Capital Research investment committee since 2007. Mr. Muns is the chief investment officer and managing member of Wealth Management, LLC. The firm uses essentially the same investment approach and strategies as Champion Capital Research with its primary focus on asset allocation and tactical investment strategies. Roger and Mary Katherine Campion have completed substantial work on an unpublished research paper entitled “Implementing the Determinates of Portfolio Performance”. In it they describe four approaches that are necessary to beat the market over the long term – namely by focusing on the flow of funds, relatively values of investments, macroeconomics and costs.

Roger has 17 years of experience managing financial assets – 8 years managing the personal portfolio of his prior employer and 9 years with Wealth Management. This experience includes managing financial assets for institutional clients (endowments and foundations) and high net worth individuals in accordance with their written investment policy statements.

Roger served as president of the CFA Society of Mississippi and earlier as Treasurer of the Mississippi Society of CPAs. Roger co-authored an article published in the American Institute of CPAs Journal of Accountancy regarding the newly adopted “Statement on Standards for Consulting Services”. Roger completed the NASD Series 65 exam for registered investment advisors.

Roger graduated from the University of Texas (Austin) with a degree in accounting and started in public accounting working for four years with Price Waterhouse in Washington D.C. Other experience includes working as a partner in a local CPA firm and CFO of a private oil and gas exploration company.

 

Advisory Committee

Andrew NunmakerAndrew Nunmaker is currently an advisor to Champion Capital Research. Mr. Nunmaker brings global fixed income institutional experience and knowledge that benefits all fixed income products that are overseen and developed at Champion Research. He has extensive experience in dealing with issuers of Covered Bonds, both Pfandbriefs and Lettres de gage.

When not advising Champion, Mr. Nunmaker, a Managing Director at Coastal Securities, retains global institutional investors. During his tenure at Coastal Securities he has performed in various capacities ranging from Broker to Director of Sales and Trading to Managing Director. His clients include Insurance Companies, Banks and Money Managers.

Mr. Nunmaker specializes in working with portfolio managers to construct portfolios that meet their specific needs with a constant eye on maintaining positive results even in challenging markets. Mr. Nunmaker operates on the principle that a well-informed client is an ideal client, which is why he is instrumental in building portfolio analytics and reporting models. In his experience, these visuals aid his clients in making investment choices. His assistance continues after the assets are in their portfolio.

Mr. Nunmaker has hosted investment seminars as well as contributed to investment seminars throughout the country as a guest speaker. Mr. Nunmaker penned a book on the merits of Small Business Administration Pools and frequently authors investment newsletters for the benefit of his clients. Mr. Nunmaker has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University and maintains a Series 7 and Series 63 FINRA securities licenses.
Raymond J. Campion, Ph.D.Raymond J. Campion is currently an advisor to Champion Capital Research. Dr. Campion brings board room scientific advisory panel experience and extensive energy experience.

Dr. Campion has recently retired after a long career in administrative and research positions in various disciplines. The bulk of his career was spent in the oil and gas industry, as a research scientist with Exxon Research and Engineering Co. in New Jersey and later with Exxon’s domestic affiliate, Exxon Co. USA in Houston, Texas. After leaving Exxon, he assumed the leadership of the National Urban Air Toxics Research Center, a 501c3 non-profit center chartered by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1991 and supported by funding from both the US EPA and private sector companies such as DuPont, Exxon, Sun, Phillips, Rohm & Haas, etc. Dr. Campion served as the first President and CEO of NUATRC, from 1993 through 2002. During this period, he was appointed as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Environment, Safety and Health Studies at the University Of Texas School Of Public Health..

After leaving NUATRC, he was appointed to the Executive Board of Northwest Assistance Ministries, a public assistance organization, for whom he later served as President of the Executive Board.

Dr. Campion received the Ph.D in Physical and Radiochemistry from Washington University in St. Louis and later served in a postdoctoral position at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York.

Jennifer Schneider, MBA, AIF

 

Consultants

Eugene Lee, MBAEugene Lee is currently a consultant for Champion Capital Research. Eugene has been active in the due diligence of traditional and alternative managers and funds for over five years. Eugene is responsible to assist in allocating these managers in order to maximize risk adjusted return through diversification and complementary manager selection. He has done this with mutual funds, variable annuity sub-accounts and separate account managers, and hedge fund managers. Additionally, he works closely with the firm’s other investment strategists in the development of investment solutions for the firms’ clients including pension funds, foundations, endowments and high net worth individuals.

Prior to his engagement with Champion, Eugene worked in the insurance asset management division of Scudder Investments, now a part of Deutsche Bank, analyzing bond portfolios. He assisted a team of portfolio managers in gathering information on bond portfolios, preparing quarterly presentations, and researching bond portfolios for corporate clients. He then joined West Hills Institutional (WHI) as a research analyst overseeing the firm’s strategic mutual fund model portfolios. After WHI was acquired by US Fiduciary, Mr. Lee became the firm’s hedge fund analyst. He contributed to the development of the firm’s hedge fund platform and oversaw all the hedge fund due diligence processes, authored quarterly industry reports, created individual hedge fund analyst reports and assisted in the firm’s fund-of-fund launch.

Eugene received his MBA from the University of Chicago GSB with a focus on accounting and finance. He holds a BA in economics from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.
